Three Wednesday Class Series with Nicky
October 21, 28 and November 4 from 6 PM - 7:30 PM
In his seminal book, Tree of Yoga, Mr. Iyengar states that true meditation is not something separated from physical action. In fact, he emphasizes that meditation and physical action are fundamentally connected. Achieving meditation within physical action requires bridging the gap between our internal consciousness and external movements. This is where the jnanendriyas (the five senses of perception: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin) play a crucial role. Rather than using the senses to look outward at the environment, Iyengar Yoga teaches practitioners to turn the jnanendriyas inward.
Join Nicolo Fonte in this 3 class series of robust practices where we will explore some longer holds in the various family of asanas. When done with an exquisite awareness of precision in alignment, we will observe how that allows for consciousness to diffuse evenly throughout every cell of the body and the effort becomes more effortless, duality’s cease to disturb the flow of energy and the physical shape transitions into an active, unbroken thread of meditation. Inversions will be taught with modifications as needed.
Suitable for those with 1 year or more of Iyengar Yoga. Less than 1 year of study or students of other methods, please contact the teacher at iyogawithnicky@gmail.com for more info.
*15 minutes prior to each class, there will be a philosophy discussion on this topic. Not required to attend the series.
Registration closes NOV 11, 4 PM
