In this class, we'll focus on mastering the basics. For those new to yoga (or Iyengar Yoga) who are looking to develop a yoga practice progressively and safely.
This methodical approach will build progressively each week. Weekly attendance is encouraged, but drop-ins are permitted. We'll break each pose down into its foundational elements starting from the base so that we can learn strength, balance, flexibility, and cultivate awareness. We'll learn how to use props to support proper alignment. Foundational poses which include standing, seated, forward bends, and some twists will be emphasized. These poses will help strengthen the arms, legs, core, shoulders, and neck in preparation for learning introductory inversions. This series is aimed towards beginning practitioners but it is open to all, including those new to Iyengar Yoga or who want to explore the depth in the basics.

Note: This class is hybrid. The instructor will be in person in Gettysburg, and also offers live virtual participation via zoom. Participants will receive the zoom link via email confirmation once they register for class.
This Level 1-2 class is suitable for practitioners with some yoga experience. This class builds off previous foundational experience. Inversions are taught, including Sirsasana (headstand). Students are expected to have some knowledge and experience with Sarvangasana (shoulderstand). Knowledge of basic yoga prop use is expected. The class emphasis differs each week and will cover varying asana (pose) families on a cyclical basis including standing poses, forward extensions, seated poses, twists, backbends, abdominal asanas, inversions and occasionally restorative poses. Poses are taught in stages and props are used to make poses accessible and to help you find proper alignment regardless of your current flexibility or strength level.
Whether you have been practicing for years or are ready to move beyond Level 1 basics, this class will leave you feeling grounded, aligned, and more integrated.

Root Yoga is inspired by the precision of the Iyengar form and an intentional and intuitive exploration of yoga asana. An accessible class for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, Root Yoga combines careful sequencing, liberal use of props, and a creative and playful approach. Students are encouraged to explore and engage in a mindful and respectfully challenging practice. Root Yoga is taught by Jeremi Dilworth

This class focuses on fundamental poses in the Iyengar method including standing poses, seated poses, twists, forward extensions and foundational backbends. Inversions like Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (bridge pose), Halasana (plough pose), and Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) are practiced and refined. Students continue to learn how to appropriately use yoga props to cultivate alignment while continuing to learn basic actions.
This class is appropriate for continuing beginner students and those who want to focus on foundational strength and stability.

As we age, it is important for the body mind to move and stay active. Older adults may be more prone to pain or injury. Limitations or injury may make it necessary to work more slowly and intentionally in your practice. This class will focus on stability and balance while also working to create mobility by addressing general stiffness. The poses will be taught in stages and appropriate support and modifications will be given.

This class is for intermediate students who have progressively cultivated their practice. Students with a solid foundation and experience in Iyengar yoga. This class focuses on refinement in basic postures and covers level 2 intermediate asanas including arm balancings, and inversion variations. Students should have experience holding Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) for several minutes.

Build the foundation for your arm balance practice (bhuja tolasana sthiti) in this strength-focused class. Learn how improving core strength, shoulder stability, hip flexion, and wrist flexibility are needed to explore poses like full arm balance (adho mukha vrksasana), feather of the peacock (pincha mayurasana), firefly (titthibhasana), 2-handed arm pose (dwi hasta bhujasana), and one-handed arm pose (eka hasta bhujasana). We’ll learn to cultivate a stable center through precise engagement of the deep abdominal muscles through udara akunchana sthiti. We’ll explore how improving hip flexion can help unlock the compactness and steadiness required to lift off and help maintain balance. In arm balances, the hands and the arms form the base of the pose. This class will explore how the tenets of alignment and directionality are important tools in learning these asanas.
Move past fear, cultivate lightness, and develop a stable mind required to balance in these challenging but fun asanas.
This class is open to students with at least one year of Iyengar Yoga experience.

In this class we will practice a yoga sequence that leads towards pranayama. This class will explore supported supine asanas and inversions which help prepare for pranayama. In restorative yoga we hold the asanas longer and use props to recover from physical and mental fatigue, with a target of restoring the equilibrium of the nervous system. Supine pranayama (extension and expansion) will also be incorporated.
We'll begin with simple breath awareness techniques and progress through classical practices including ujjayi (victorious breath) and viloma (interrupted breath). Props such as bolsters, blankets, and chairs will support your practice, allowing you to focus on the subtle movements of the breath without strain.
This class is suitable for students with yoga experience.
